5 Foods That Fight Sugar Cravings

5 healthy foods to combat sugar cravings.

Apple

Fruits naturally taste sweet, making them effective in fighting sugar cravings. One of the best fruits that help fight sugar cravings is the apple. Apples taste very sweet and they are also high in fibre. Fibre makes the stomach feel full and helps satisfy sugar cravings. Also, apples are easy to carry and they don't need to be peeled or cut like other fruits. Apples also take longer to chew, so the person eating it will soon start thinking that he is no longer hungry, thus reducing his sugar cravings.

Sweet corn

Sweet corn is another healthy food that can help fight sugar cravings. Sweet corn is native to Central America but it was introduced to the rest of the world by explorers from Spain. Sweet corn is different from ordinary field corn because of its mutation of the sugary locus. Sweet corn is great for fighting sugar cravings because it tastes sweet when cooked and one will feel quite full after eating an ear of it. It is also rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibre.

Sweet potato

Another vegetable that tastes sweet when cooked is the sweet potato. Sweet potatoes can be chopped up and then fried to make sweet potato fries. Sweet potatoes will not only satisfy sugar cravings, but also supply the body with vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B6, and iron. The nutrients in sweet potatoes can help prevent heart disease, cancer, and other degenerative diseases.

Cinnamon

The extraordinary properties of cinnamon can help fight sugar cravings. The main active ingredient of cinnamon is Methyl hydroxychalcone which helps enhance the effects of insulin and satisfies your sugar cravings. Cinnamon also prevents the blood sugar spikes that cause sugar cravings and normalizes blood sugar levels.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes can also fight sugar cravings because they are high in serotonin. Studies suggest that low serotonin levels are among the main causes of sugar cravings. The serotonin in tomatoes functions as a neurotransmitter that tells a person's brain that his sugar cravings have been satisfied. Tomatoes are also high in chromium, a mineral that reduces food cravings, regulates cholesterol, fat and blood sugar levels.

Conclusion

The foods in this list will not only fight sugar cravings, but also improve the body's overall health. These foods should be included in one's daily diet so that one will be able to keep their sugar cravings at bay.

The Secret Beauty of Sand Grains

We all enjoy the glimmering ocean waves and the cool breeze on a beach, but have we ever thought about the beauty that lies right underfoot? But a series of magnified photos may inspire you to turn your gaze to the sand, where little seen beauty lies.

Photographer, inventor, and scientist, Dr Gary Greenberg has devoted his life to revealing the secret beauty of nature. Dr. Gary Greenberg's photographs magnify grains of sand 100 to 300 times, exposing swirling microscopic shells, eroded crystals and colourful coral fragments. With the help of high-quality microscopes, he creates "spectacular landscapes of worlds beyond our everyday perception — worlds where reality is seen as abstract form and colour, motion and texture."

The grains come from diverse beaches around the world, reaching from Okinawa, Japan to Maui, Hawaii to Smith Mountain Lake, Va. Each fragment is unique in character and remarkably beautiful.

To see more of Greenberg's microphotography, including magnified images of food, flowers and the human body, visit his website.

Five Negative Thought Patterns You Need To Drop Now

We can't have the best year if we keep using the same old stinking thinking, so here are five negative thought patterns you need to drop.

1. Catastrophizing
We go from 0 to “my life is OVER” in five seconds flat when we get caught up in this thought pattern. It usually involves some awesome exaggeration as to how one tiny little mistake is going to be the end of a career, or some similarly important aspect of life. This creates loads of anxiety, fear, stress, and even hopelessness or helplessness.
To steer clear of this one, go with the facts based in reality. Be wary of getting spun up into the anxiety cloud by making something far worse than it really is. Also, DON'T jump to conclusions (another negative thought pattern).

2. Generalizing
We take one thing and run with it. We colour all our future interactions by one event. Ever heard “all guys are liars” or “all women are high maintenance”? Watch out for the use of "all" and "none," and break this bad habit for good!

3. Personalizing
The world does not revolve around you. It doesn’t revolve around me, either. Keep this in mind when you take something personally. People’s reactions have much more to do with their own issues than they have to do with yours. Give yourself a break from taking all the blame automatically or assuming (another negative thought pattern) that you're causing someone to feel or do a particular feeling or action. We only have that much power over ourselves.

4. Filtering
Calling all my Negative Nancys. They can find the dark cloud regardless of how many rainbows show up. Filtering focuses on only the negative aspects while ignoring the positive. This is a type of skewed thinking. To stay clear of this one, make sure you're viewing things from a clear and balanced perspective. There are few things that are all bad or all good.

5. "Should"-ing
This is probably one of my favourites as I “should” on myself all the time. Shoulds imply that we aren't up to snuff and that we're falling behind in some way. Add enough shoulds to your plate, and you'll be overwhelmed and feeling defeated in no time. Your get out of jail free card is that if you really should be doing something, then make the time to do it! If it isn't really that important, then kick it to the curb. You have enough going on right now, and that’s OK!

A Hand portrait with 2.1 Million Ink dots helps the cause of Benjaman Kyle

The picture you see is not a photo clicked with a camera, but a drawing done by hand. This technique requires a lot of patience and the end result is a portrait composed of 2.1 million dots.  MiguelEndara  an artist from Miami, Florida lent his art to the cause of Benjaman Kyle, whose name actually is fictional. In his sixties this gentleman calls himself Benjaman since 2004, after he was found unconscious on the street. Benjaman suffers from dissociative amnesia and has no clue of who he is and what his name is. Despite the media exposure, DNA testing and fingerprints, no one has yet been able to help him.

Half of the proceeds will go to Benjaman Kyle’s search for identity. Miguel Endara, the artist has also called the White House with a petition to give Benjaman Kyle a new Social Security number.

These Books Will Violently Shift Your Perspectives

There always is a book that will rock your world so hard that you're never quite the same after. Here is a list  of 7 books that will surely going to rock your skull hard!

On Happiness…

Zen and the Art of Happiness by Chris Prentiss
Of all the books & articles on happiness, this one is by far the best. Prentiss takes an extremely pragmatic approach to cultivating a mindset of happiness so that nothing can bring you down. This is not ‘The Secret’ with wishy-washy ‘science’. No spirituality required. The author takes from his years of experiences working at an addiction cure center in California to nail down the steps required to ultimate happiness. If Prentiss can use these methods to cure a heroine addiction, imagine what he can do for you.

On Mortality and Meaning…

Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl

Viktor Frankl experienced the limits of human suffering during his extended stay in Nazi concentration camps. While recapping his story, Frankl explores its implications on his views of meaning in life. He gains a very unique perspective while watching those around him break down completely, and yet another through seeing Jews adjust back to normal life after finding freedom.

On Health & Nutrition…

Yoga of Eating by Charles Eisenstein – Health & Nutrition

There is much more to eating than you think. In this book, Eisenstein explains the shortcomings of western views on nutrition, and how to transform your eating habits to get more enjoyment and nourishment out of your food. He discusses how being present while eating and truly tasting your food affects your body’s absorption of nutrients. He also explains diets, and how certain monks are capable of consuming only air, sunlight and water for years at a time.

Society and Economics

Sacred Economics by Charles Eisenstein

Eisenstein expands on what you’ve probably heard about the faults of our current economic/debt system and takes you on a journey from the very beginning of currency. He explains in-depth how many of our societal ills (poverty, over consumption, ecological devastation) stem from our highly unsustainable economic system. He then goes out to lay out feasible ways to start waning from this system to create a new economy, and consequently a new world..

Sex & Relationships
Sex at Dawn by Christopher Ryan & Cacilda Jetha

Sex at Dawn explores the history of human sexuality through surprising truths about our anatomy, indigenous societies and our closest primate relatives. The authors continually pile on scientific evidence to support what some might have guessed from our 50% divorce rate: monogamy is far from natural. Don’t read this unless you’re ready to destroy and rebuild your views on human nature, relationships and sexuality. It’s that crazy.

The Nature of Reality

Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch

Walsch is a frustrated Christian who angrily writes God a series of questions one day, and is shocked to hear a voice begin answering back. Whether you believe the non-fiction label or not, that voice paints an absolutely beautiful, and above all logical picture of the true nature of reality, and explains where modern religions have gone wrong.

Death and the Nature of Reality

Adventures Beyond the Body by William Buhlman

In this book, Buhlman pulls from 30+ years of OOBE’s, and explains the fundamental methods of achieving the state, as well as what to expect beyond the physical world. The truth is that we all can gain personal knowledge about life beyond this physical body. Death is not an unsolved mystery as modern science would lead us to believe. There are hundreds of thousands of accounts of near-death and OOBE’s world-wide, spanning all of history, all reporting the same sensations. This is not bullshit. Check it out
